World`s First “Self-Driving” Database Oracle 18c

World`s First “Self-Driving” Database

Oracle 18c

Autonomous

  • ·         Self-driving with fully automated patching, upgrades, backups, and integrated availability architecture.

  • ·          Autonomously performs management functions to eliminate potential costly, manual error-prone processing.

Efficient

  • ·         Self-tuning database consumes fewer computer resources than a human-tuned system.

  • ·         Resources are only provisioned as needed by types of workloads, minimizing cloud resources consumption.

Instant Elasticity

  • ·         Self-scaling instantly and independently scales compute resources, such as cores and storage, so you only pay for what you use.

  • ·         Instant scale of compute resources is swift and online with no downtime interruption due to resource resizing.

Security

  • ·         Self-securing administers security automatically with self-patch and self-updates.

  • ·         All data is automatically encrypted.

  • ·         Access is monitored and controlled to protect from external access as well as unauthorized internal access.

Industry-Leading Performance

  • Integrated machine-learning algorithms drive automatic caching, adaptive indexing, advanced compression, and optimized cloud data loading to deliver unrivaled performance.
  • Automatic adaptive performance tuning eliminates manual error-prone tuning processes.
Oracle Sets New Standard with World’s First Autonomous Database
Oracle is revolutionizing how data is managed with the introduction of the world’s first "self-driving" database. This ground-breaking Oracle Database technology automates management to deliver unprecedented availability, performance, and security at a significantly lower cost.
Powered by Oracle Database 18c, the next generation of the industry-leading database, Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud offers total automation based on machine learning and eliminates human labour, human error, and manual tuning.

Get unmatched reliability and performance at half the cost.
·         No Human Labour: Database automatically upgrades, patches, and tunes itself while running; automates security updates with no downtime window required.

·         No Human Error: SLA guarantees 99.995% reliability and availability, which minimizes costly planned and unplanned downtime to less than 30 minutes a year.

·         No Manual Performance Tuning: Database consumes less compute and storage because of machine learning and automatic compression. Combined with lower manual admin costs, Oracle offers even bigger cost savings.

Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse Cloud
Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse Cloud is built on the “self-driving” Oracle Autonomous Cloud Database technology integrated with adaptive machine learning to deliver unprecedented performance, reliability, and ease of deployment.

Simple: Deployment of a data warehouse is easy. For new deployment, users specify tables, load data, and then run their workloads in a matter of seconds no manual tuning or database experts are needed. For migration from another commercial database to Oracle Cloud, there are specific migration tools to help you easily move your data warehouse to Oracle Cloud.

Self-Securing: Security patches and updates are applied automatically. Data is encrypted by default and guarded against intrusion from unauthorized users both external and internal.

Less time on boring shit. More time on important shit!
This is firmly targeted at removing the need for operational DBAs. A role that *you* should have already automated out of your organisation anyway. If you’ve not, then you have failed.

It should be obvious that the Development DBAs are sitting pretty here. The thinkers are safe. The recipe followers are not. Your mantra from now on should be…

Keep learning. Keep improving yourself. Keep your job!
For context it’s worth mentioning a few things.
·         Oracle 18c is effectively 12.2.0.2, but as has happened with recent patchsets, it contains a bunch of new functionality.

·         Although Oracle 18c has new features that make it easier to build an autonomous database, the “Autonomous Database” is a cloud service, so you will need to run your database on Oracle Public Cloud, or on Cloud@Customer. Just installing 18c on-prem will not get you an autonomous database.

·         This is the first generation of the first service in a suite of database services for a variety of workloads. The more customers that use these services, the more workloads Oracle will see and the more autonomous they can make them. This is the beginning of a process, not the conclusion.
